Art Club

Advisor: Mr. George

A high school after-school club open to Palmyra students in grades 9-12. There are no skill requirements for club participation, just a desire to express yourself in a host of different mediums. Along with personal art journaling, club members will participate in group & individual art service & beautification projects, as well as promotional projects throughout the district.

Art Club's mission is to explore the creative world, explore design in its many forms, & to work towards sustainable, long-term installations with an emphasis on using recycled materials wherever possible. We have a relaxed atmosphere that will meet 1-2 times a month, where students work together, play music, & make art.

As a student group,  dedicated to the uplifting of black students, inclusion and social justice, the PHS BSU will encourage students to examine our community and ourselves to work to improve the black student experience at PHS.  The intent of the Black Student Union is to create an atmosphere that focuses on promoting the social, cultural and academic well-being of all students regardless of cultural background or race.
Our goal is to expand the understanding of the issues in today’s society through the lens of culture and history.

The most important objective of the PHS Book Club is to foster a love for reading. Students will read without fear of being tested afterwards.
Reading will, therefore, be purely for recreation, for entertainment, for relaxation, for information, and for many other reasons, aside from being evaluated. The book titles are decided by students and the discussion that follows is also student driven. Hence, membership is for students in grades 9-12th.

Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA)
Advisor: Mr. McBain

Future Business Leaders of America is the Student Technical Career Organization (CTSO) for the Finance CTE program. All students enrolled in the first course, Business Law and Introduction to Business, will be eligible to participate. The meetings will be held monthly and the following leadership positions will be available: President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, and Reporter. Students participating in the CTSO will also have the opportunity to participate in a Work Based Learning Experience with a local business and take an end of program assessment.

Founded in September 2005, this club has offered students an excellent opportunity to meet outside of class for social purposes, develop their organizational, communication, and leadership skills, as well as to enrich their knowledge of the German-speaking people, their community, their language, and their culture. The German Club at Palmyra High School meets once a month, mostly on the third Wednesday. Our schedule is posted on the bulletin board outside Room 11 and on Ms. DeMarco’s website.

PHS German Club members celebrate major German festivals, listen to German music, and attend German music concerts. We view German television coverage of current events, German movies, and videos. We take field trips (subject to the approval by the Palmyra Board of Education) to various cultural events sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of German, German cultural center Goethe-Institute in New York City, and Philadelphia German American Marketing Company, just to name a few. You may find a list of approved and proposed trips on the bulletin board and on the website as well.

In 2009 we founded a chapter of the National German Honor Society for High School Students (Delta Epsilon Phi – DEP) at Palmyra High School as a logical extension of PHS German Club. Our chapter is called New Jersey Alpha Alpha. To be eligible, a student must have completed three semesters of German attaining an average of 3.5 in German and a 3.0 general average in these three semesters, on a 4.0 scale. The student must also be actively involved in extracurricular German-related activities.

The German National Honor Society induction ceremony traditionally takes place in May. Once inducted, German National Honor Society members assume responsibilities of being active advocates for German studies, mentors for elementary and middle school children, and volunteers to promote German in our community and beyond. German NHS members typically meet once biweekly and run the committees of PHS German Club. Ms. Katie DeMarco, PHS German teacher, is an advisor to both German Club and German NHS, however, both are truly student-run organizations.
