-and NOW from our SPORTS DESK - Athletic Director Mike Papenberg reports: Good Morning Palmyra! Here is a look at how our student-athletes performed last week:
The Palmyra Boys Tennis Team defeated Burlington Township 5-0 in their only match of the week. John Liebe won his first singles matchup 6-0, 6-1. Richie Butler continued his success at second singles winning 6-4, 6-1. In third singles, Austin Forrester and in first doubles Julian Carlino and Connor McCann all had dominating matches both winning 6-0,6-0. In second doubles, Owen Jacobs and Jaykob Ott also defeated their opponent 6-1,6-2. The boys are now 5-2 on the season with an important week of matches against Florence, Pemberton, and Delran.
On Thursday and Friday of last week the Boys & Girls Track & Field Teams competed at the Penn Relays against the nation’s best athletes.
- The Girl's team of Caitlin Hartman, Natasha McGowan, Maura Russell and La'Nya Muldrew ran their fastest time of the year in the 4 X100 relay.
- The Boy's team of Kwinten Ives, John Latimore, Bobby Woll and Marcus Grimes also ran their fastest time of the year in the 4X100 relay.
- The biggest surprise of the day was the boys 4X400 meter relay team of Abdul Iyiola, Joe Russell, Colin Broadbelt, and Patrick Broadbelt. The boys' team placed 7th overall and smashed their previous record by 4 seconds! (more photos below)
The Baseball Team had a 2 and 1 week. After a 12-7 loss to Pemberton on Monday, the boys exploded for 22 runs on Tuesday to defeat Willingboro 22-10. Jason Maniscalco had 3 hits and runs batted in. Steven Peltz had 2 hits and 4 runs batted in. Brayden Minnix, Joe Elmes, Chap-Sa Lim, Lucas Moritz and Dean Maute all had 2 hits for the Panthers offense. Noah Vaughn picked up the win for the Panthers.
The boys then beat rival Florence High School on Thursday, 8-3. Joe Elmes led the team offensively with 3 hits, including a home run, and drove in 3 runs. Chap-Sa Lim also had 3 hits while Dean Maute and Steven Peltz each had 2 hits. On the mound Joe Elmes pitched 7 solid innings, striking out 9 Flashes, to record the win. The Panthers are now 5-4 on the season.
The Softball Team also had a 2-1 week. After a close 12-8 loss to Pennsauken on Monday, the girls rebounded with a 15-9 win over Pemberton High School on Tuesday. Jasmine Martinez, Aubrey Wagner, Mckenzie May and Sidney Lim all had 2 hits to lead the Lady Panthers. Jasmine Martinez and Keyanna Watson each had 2 runs batted in. Eve Fencl was the winning pitcher, striking out 9 Hornets.
The girls then demolished Woodbury High School on Thursday, 26-3. Jisselle Martinez had 4 hits and 4 runs batted in. Jasmine Martinez and Eve Fencl both had 3 hits and Eve knocked in 7 runs in the game. Eve was also the winning pitcher, striking out 12 Woodbury batters.

The MIDDLE SCHOOL Boys & Girls Track & Field Teams traveled to Maple Shade for their 1st meet of the season against multiple area middle schools.
Here is how they performed:
Track:
- Maya Richman-Dupont finished in the top 3 of the girls 1600m
- John Hammond had his personal best (6:03) in the boys 1600m
- Sy’Keem Muse and Burak Sayin both won their heats in the boys 100m and 200m
- Az’Zahra Pollard was the girls 200m heat 1 winner.
Field:
- Zaria Welch won the girls shot put with a throw of 26’ 11”
- Ava Simms won the girls High Jump with a jump of 4’2’’
- T.J. had his personal best in the boys discus throwing 61’1’’.
- Josh Carter made it to the final round of jumpers in the boys High Jump with his personal best 4’4’’.
There were a lot of runners, jumpers, and throwers competing in events for the first time ever. Outstanding performances and effort all around.
