-and NOW from our SPORTS DESK - Athletic Director Mike Papenberg reports: Good Day Everyone! Hope you had a great weekend! Here is a look at some of our athletic results from last week.
Yee-Haw! Congratulations again to the Award-Winning Palmyra Marching Band & Color Guard for their 1st place finish at the Burlington City US Bands Show. The band beat perennial powerhouse Lenape High School in route to winning Best Visual, Best Music, Best Overall Effect, and Best Percussion. Kudos to the band & guard for a great performance all around.
The Girls Soccer Team is off to a tremendous start to their season winning their first 2 games by a combined score of 14-1. The girls opened their season with a 7-1 thrashing of Maple Shade High School on Monday. Mikayla Mangano led the scoring with a hat trick while Ellie McCarron added 2 goals. Jillian Hines and La’Nya Muldrew-Bracero each added single goals for the Lady Panthers. Maeve O’Connell picked up the win in goal.
The girls finished the week with a 7-0 shutout win over BCIT Medford on Friday. Mikayla Mangano added another hat trick, her 2nd of the young season. La’Nya Muldrew-Bracero, Cameron DiMeo, Jillian Hines and Madison Grimes each added individual goals. Maeve O’Connell and Elsie Kenson shared the shutout win in goal. The girls are 2-0 and will travel to Moorestown Friends today for their next matchup.
The Boys Soccer Team also had a 2-0 week. The boys opened the week with a thrilling 1-0 overtime win over rivals Holy Cross High School. Kian Briant scored a header in the 2nd overtime period to win it for the Panthers. Connor McCann put in a perfectly placed restart for Kian to finish. Deakon Haines made 8 saves in goal to earn the shutout.
The boys defeated Audubon High School on Thursday 4-2 in a nonleague matchup. Jaxon McCamy led the way offensively with 2 goals and 1 assist. Kian Briant had 1 goal and 2 assists. Dean Maute added a goal and freshman Arthur Godoy added an assist. Deakon Haines made 7 saves in goal to earn the win. The boys are now 2-1 and will also travel to Moorestown Friends today for their next match.
The Field Hockey Team had a 1-1 week. After a loss to Moorestown Friends on Monday the girls responded with a blowout win over Burlington City on Friday, 6-0. Senior Anna Paszkiewicz had a hat trick to lead the team offensively. The girls are now 1-1 on the season and will host Maple Shade tomorrow at Legion Field at 3:45PM.
The Girls Tennis Team also had a 1-1 week. The girls lost to Moorestown Friends 0-5 on Wednesday but responded with a 5-0 win over Thrive Academy(Formerly Trenton Catholic) on Thursday.
Grace Stavely won at 1st Singles(6-0, 6-0),
Sidney Lim at 2nd Singles(6-0, 6-1) and
Jane Ancker at 3rd Singles(6-0, 6-0).
Karly Klipple and Jasmine Martinez won at 1st Doubles(6-0, 6-0) while
Olivia Gallagher and Lucy Reigel won at 2nd Doubles(6-0, 6-0).
The girls are now 1-3 on the season and will take on Haddon Heights at Legion Field today at 4PM.
The Football Team lost a competitive game to Holy Cross on Friday Night at Matt Curtis Memorial Stadium. John Latimore scored the touchdown for the Panthers. Evan Montgomery converted the extra point to put the Panthers in front. Jaleel Latimore caught 4 passes for 70 yards. The Panthers fell to 0-3 and will host KIPP Charter on Saturday at 10AM for their next game.
The Cross Country Teams will open up with a batch meet at the Palmyra Cove tomorrow.
