students in front of a fire truck for safety assembly

Delaware Avenue Preschool Principal, Dr. Flo Norton welcomed the Palmyra Fire Department this morning for an outdoor assembly for our preschoolers! These guys know how to impress: they brought a truck & goodies!

Under the watchful eye of Chief Dreby, Firefighter Isaiah & Firefighter Sebastian were wonderful hosts sharing the importance of fire safety, the demystification of a firefighter in full gear, the many tools of the truck, and of course, STOP-DROP & ROLL!

Our smallest students were given the opportunity to ask questions, touch the truck & to get up close to the firefighters while they were in gear. This familiarity is important when explaining to the students that in a fire they need to get low & shout loud when they see a firefighter.

October is National Fire Prevention Month and the students were given stickers & coloring books to help review the importance of preventing fires. They were reminded about 911 being used in an emergency as well as firefighters being friends that are there to protect them.

Students wore their paper fire hats that they colored themselves & our firefighters were very impressed. Each class shared a handmade thank you card with the Chief & the firemen!

We are #PalmyraProud of our wonderful Palmyra Independence Fire Company #1 and appreciate their help teaching our students fire safety & fire prevention. Don't be surprised if someone little in your house asks if you checked the battery on your smoke detectors lately!
