This is a huge week in Senior Scholar-Athlete Ellie McCarron's life! Her soccer team has worked their way up to the NJSIAA Sectional Championships tomorrow. At Monday's game, she scored her 40th career goal (so far) as a Palmyra Panther. Today, she signed her letter of intent on signing day to play soccer for the United States Air Force Academy!
"Palmyra is a school deep in athletic tradition which has produced some of the state's top athletes over the past 100 years and Ellie now adds to that list," shared Mike Papenberg, PHS Athletic Director in his introduction of Ellie today. He went on to say, "Ellie has represented Palmyra High School in a fantastic way over the past 4 years with her play, leadership & academic prowess. If you have seen Ellie play, you know that she puts 100% effort into every contest and has a tenacious work ethic that sets her apart from many of her peers. Even though Palmyra has such a rich athletic history, this is still an occasion that does not happen often and is something we should not take for granted. Through years of hard work and dedication to the sport of soccer and her academics, Ellie has been offered the opportunity to play soccer on the division 1 level next year at the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, CO."
Congratulations also goes to Coach Melanie Sharkey, Coach Ken Miller & Coach Matt Papenberg on their guidance of Ellie and the Girls Soccer Team over the past 4 years! Ellie's teachers & advisors at both Riverton & Palmyra deserve congratulations as well for their support in her overall education. We are most certainly, #PalmyraProud of Ellie McCarron on this important day in this amazing week of her life!
