Mindful Monday-hand painted reindeer boxes

...'tis the season! In this month of celebrations there can be many pressures to spend in order to give gifts.  If time allows (let's not make all of this any more complicated), go for the simple choice of DIY gifts.

Giving of yourself/your child doesn’t have to mean spending money. Rediscover the joy of handmade & heartfelt gifting with a special focus on useful or delicious!

As the article on calmmoment.com shares: "Spending time on your loved ones, or WITH them is the greatest gift of all."   Options could include volunteering your time to help others, sending handwritten letters (sure to stand out among the bills), including someone outside your usual family circle for celebrations, or getting crafty.

If the thought of "getting crafty" brings on a winter chill, here's a few (81) ideas from housebeautiful.com that range from beginner to intermediate and can be as simple as gathering the ingredients for a recipe & bagging them together or having your child paint something festive on the gifting box!  Including them in this process helps to make them more considerate of others needs and takes the focus off of receiving at the holidays. One local family chose to use the money they spend on holiday cards & postage to give to local charities while sending a virtual card- crafty & benevolent!

We salute our CSS teachers that take on this handmade task with their classes each year (save those toilet paper rolls!) & encourage you to find your "elementary" self to get more out of the holidays.  Many of the student's efforts were sold at our annual craft fair this year to help families in need for the holidays!
