Reap the Rewards of Reading!
During this time of the Charles Street School's Annual Reading Challenge (and we hear there's a reading challenge sweeping through the Middle & High Schools as well!), it is an ideal time to point out the benefits of Mindful Reading.
When we make time to read with children, they get the message that reading is important and fun. When we set up the environment to be a mindful one- clearing out distractions, children get the message that reading is worth the mindful time. When we read books that have characters of all races, genders, and backgrounds, students of all ages discover their own voices and learn from the voices of others. That is the goal of the NEA'S Read Across America Week!
In her article in Well & Good, Kells McPhillips shares that: "as Yoon Im Kane, LCSW shared the insight from her Mindful Psychotherapy Services, while the act of reading can't necessarily be considered meditation, it can be approached with mindful intention."
As part of our District goals, we will continue to share mindful reminders from our SEL Toolbox. #BeingMindful #PalmyraStrong #MindfulMondaylove #MindfulHabits #MindfulRead
