-and NOW from our SPORTS DESK - Athletic Director Mike Papenberg reports: Good Morning Palmyra! I hope everyone had a nice weekend! We are rapidly approaching the end of the fall sports seasons already! Here is a look at how our teams are performing as the season winds down:
The Boys Cross Country Team competed at the BCSL Divisional Batch Meet on Tuesday. Colin Broadbelt won 1st place for the BCSL Freedom Division, Jimmy Crean placed 5th and Aiden Hines was 13th. In the Girls Cross Country race, Cadence Anderson finished in 4th place.
The Girls Soccer Team went 2 and 1 on the week. After falling to Holy Cross on Monday the girls responded with a huge divisional win against New Egypt on Wednesday, 1-0. Riayn DiMeo scored the game winner off an assist from Maura Russell. Maeve O’Connell made 3 saves to earn the shutout win. The Lady Panthers then finished off the week with another huge BCSL Patriot Division win over Maple Shade, 4-0. Maura Russell and Julia Ostroff each scored twice. Ellie McCarron and Cali Carr provided assists. Maeve O’Connell made 5 saves in goal to earn the shutout. The girls are now 11-3 on the season and will travel to BCIT Westampton on Wednesday for their next game.
The Boys Soccer Team went 1 and 2 on the week against some very tough competition. The boys lost to Cinnaminson on Tuesday 4-1 but responded with a huge BCSL Patriot Division win over Florence on Thursday, 7-1. Andrew Santoro scored a hat trick while Callum Curcie added 2 goals and Abdul Iyiola and Jase Jennings each scored once. Jaxon McCamy, Cole McCamy, Julian Carlino and Luke Cannuli all provided assists. Deakon Haines made 5 saves in goal to earn the win. The boys traveled to Clearview High School on Saturday for the 1st round of the South Jersey Coaches Tournament. The boys represented Palmyra High School proudly. With the game tied throughout much of the match, Clearview scored a goal with 1 minute and 30 seconds left in double overtime to win it. Richie Butler scored for the Panthers. The final result was a 2-1 double overtime loss against 1 of the top 5 teams in South Jersey. The boys are now 12-2-1 on the season and will head to Holy Cross today for a massive BCSL Patriot Division Contest.
The Football Team traveled to Burlington City for their football game on Saturday in tough weather conditions and lost 60-0. The Panthers will return home this Saturday for Homecoming. Game time is 11AM with the Koffee Klatch at 9am and senior recognitions occurring prior to the game.
The Girls Tennis Team competed against Cinnaminson and New Egypt last week losing both matches 0-5. The girls are now 2-8 on the season and will compete in the BCSL Open tomorrow before completing their season on Wednesday at Delran. Good Luck!
The Palmyra Marching Band & Color Guard’s competition was rained out on Saturday. They will travel to Washington Township this Saturday for their next competition.
The Field Hockey Team traveled to Audubon and New Egypt for their 2 games last week. The girls scored 2 goals, both scored by our own Evie Aird! The girls will play a night game at Riverside High School Tuesday at 6PM.
The Middle School Boys & Girls Soccer Teams both competed against Cinnaminson Middle School on Wednesday. Both teams took on Moorestown Middle School yesterday.
