-and NOW from our SPORTS DESK - Athletic Director Mike Papenberg reports:   Good Morning Palmyra!  I hope everyone enjoyed the beautiful weather this weekend!  Here is a look at how our student-athletes performed last week:

The Boys Soccer Team had an impressive 3-win week.  The boys opened the week with a 2-1 win over archrival Riverside High School on Monday.  Kian Briant and Cole McCamy were the goal scorers.  Deakon Haines made 5 saves in goal to earn the win.  The boys then defeated Bordentown High School 1-0 in a thrilling game, scoring with less than 5 minutes to play.  Dean Maute was the goal scorer following up a shot from Kian Briant.  Deakon Haines made 9 saves to earn the shutout.  The boys finished off their perfect week with another BCSL Patriot Division win by crushing Holy Cross 3-0 on Friday.  Kian Briant and Jaden Jennings were the goal scorers.  Deakon Haines made 9 saves to pick up his 2nd shutout in a row.  The boys are now 7-3 on the season and were ranked as the #20 ranked team in South Jersey to start the week by the SJSCA. SJSCA Rankings

Congratulations yet again to the Palmyra Marching Band & Color Guard for their 2nd place finish at the Seneca HS Band competition on Saturday.  Yee-Haw! This is their second 2nd place finish, and the fifth straight week they have placed in the top 2.  The band beat their much larger perennial powerhouse school competitors, Lenape, Rancocas Valley and Burlington City.  As in past weeks, the band still won the captions for:

  • Best Ensemble Music and

  • Best Music Effect. 

  • The band also had the second-best score for all “A” class bands regardless of size. 

They are off next week for Homecoming before going for the state Championship in two weeks.  Congratulations on another great performance.

The Football Team won their 2nd in a row with a 20-6 win over Maple Shade High School Friday Night.  John Latimore ran 13 times for 131 yards and 2 touchdowns.  Michael Monroe rushed for 37 yards and 1 touchdown.  Evan Montgomery converted 2 extra points.  Jaleel Latimore had 5 catches for 68 yards.  Grayson Booth and Dre Lord each had an interception for the Panthers Defense.  The boys are now 2-3 on the season and will host Lindenwold on Saturday at 11AM for Homecoming.

The Girls Soccer Team continues to have a tremendous season.  The girls went 2 and 1 on the week.  They opened with a 7-0 demolishing of Riverside High School for the girls senior night.  Ellie McCarron led the offense with 3 goals and 2 assists.  Mikayla Mangano had 2 goals while Kyleigh Himel and La’Nya Muldrew-Bracero each had a goal.  Amanda Gilmore provided 2 assists for the Lady Panthers.  Maeve O’Connell made 3 saves in goal to earn the shutout win. 
The girls then defeated BCSL Patriot Division foes Bordentown High School on Wednesday, 1-0.  Kyleigh Himel scored the game winner with less than 4 minutes to play off an assist by Jillian Hines.  Maeve O’Connell made 3 saves to earn her 6th shutout of the season. 
The girls lost their 1st game of the season to Delran on Friday but ended the week with a very impressive 9-1 on the season.  The girls will travel to BCIT Medford today for their next game.

The Field Hockey Team had a huge week winning 2 games!  The girls beat Pemberton High School on Tuesday night, 2-1.  Senior Anna Paszkiewicz had a goal and assist to lead the team.  The girls finished the week with a 4-0 win over Winslow Township High School on Friday.  Anna Paszkiewicz had 2 goals and 1 assist to lead the girls.  Danica Krstic scored the other 2 goals for the Panthers.  The girls are now 3-6 on the season and will travel to Moorestown Friends tomorrow for their next game.

This weekend the Boys & Girls Cross Country Teams competed in the New Balance Shore Coaches meet in Holmdel Park. The boys’ team of Owen Jacobs, Aiden Hines, TJ Peltz, Carter May and Jack Timlin took 17th out of 27 teams.  Maya Richmond-Dupont placed in the top 1/3 of her race against some of the best runners in the Tri-state area.

The Girls Tennis Team lost their opening round NJSIAA Playoff Match on Monday to Gateway, 5-0.  The girls were able to pick up a win against Willingboro on Thursday, 3-2. 

  • Jane Ancker won at 3rd singles(6-0, 6-0). 

  • Karly Klipple and Jordyn Carter won at 1st Doubles and

  • Jasmine Martinez and Olivia Gallagher won at 2nd Doubles(6-0, 6-0). 

The girls are 2-9 on the season and will play Buena High School on Tuesday in their next match.

==================MIDDLE SCHOOL SPORTS======================
The Middle School Boys Soccer Team outlasted Cinnaminson 1-0 on Wednesday. Jesus Analco-Martinez scored a goal early from an assist from Jaxson Ridgway.  Logan Collins, Ben Dickinson and Santiago Analco-Martinez provided an outstanding defense in front of Ethan Priest’s gem of a shutout. The boys will compete against Camden Promise Charter School today at Charles Street.
