A unanimous vote by the Palmyra Board of Education last week confirmed our new Superintendent of Schools to be Florencia Norton, Ed.D. Our Board President, Mr. Sean Toner, noted that there were 31 applicants in the search conducted by the New Jersey School Board Association (NJSBA) and our Board of Ed.
Outgoing Interim Superintendent, Mark Pease, noted that, “It is my honor to introduce Dr. Florencia Norton as your new Superintendent…As my time in Palmyra comes to end in June, I am 100% confident to pass the torch to a dedicated and brilliant educational leader to guide and lead this great school district.”
Board President Toner shared, “Having 31 applicants speaks volumes to the interest in what is happening here in our District. The search meetings and interviews brought us amazing candidates, this board had a level of professionalism that was outstanding & personally grateful for the notable effort and outcome.”
Dr. Norton is already a valued employee of Palmyra School District and believes that her district familiarity will greatly aid in her success in her first 100 days and beyond. She currently covers the following areas:
Director of Curriculum & Instruction
District McKinney-Vento Homeless Liaison
District Equity/Affirmative Action Officer
Director District Data, Assessment & Accountability
Director Multilingual Learning (MLL)
Director Gifted & Talented (G&T)
Preschool Principal
These many roles have allowed her to be omnipresent on campus, knowing all of the faculty, staff, students and of course, the curriculum. This year, Dr. Norton also took on the role of Preschool Principal and her preschool staff were at the meeting in force to support her and also let her know how much they will miss her in their own front office. As a district administrator already wearing many hats, Mr. Pease presented Dr. Norton with a hard hat for the continuing renovations along with her nameplate for future board meetings. (photo) Dr. Norton officially begins her term on July 1, 2025 when Mr. Pease returns to retirement.
