In recent years we have been proud to share stories of our students honoring Dr. King with an MLK day of service. On THIS Pandemic version of MLK day, we are #PalmyraProud to share a flashback video tribute with our #PHSalumni connection to Reverend Martin Luther King Jr, Dr. Clarence B. Jones '49.
TIME magazine summarized in 2018: “Over the course of a decade, Dr. Martin Luther King became synonymous with nonviolent direct action as he worked to overturn systemic segregation and racism across the southern United States. The civil rights movement formed the guidebook for a new era of protest. Whether it be responding to wars or protesting an unpopular administration at home, or the “color revolutions” across Europe and elsewhere overseas, the legacy of moral victory begetting actual change has been borne out time and again. The movement’s enduring influence is a far cry from its humble beginnings.”
Dr. Jones had such a powerful link with Dr. King. We are still grateful that he filled the halls of PHS again in 2017 with a real sense of obligation & empowerment through his life stories that he shared with our students & community.
