-and NOW from our SPORTS DESK - Athletic Director Mike Papenberg reports:                           Good Afternoon Palmyra!  It was another great week for PHS athletics.  Here is a look at how our student athletes performed:

Congratulations to the Palmyra Marching Band & Color Guard for their 1st place finish in the Independence A class this past weekend at William Tennent HS in Warminster, PA.  They had their best show of the year and included in that process, the group won captions for Best Visual, Best Ensemble Music, Best Visual Effect and Best Music Effect, and finished second for Best Field Music.  OUTSTANDING!

The Girls Soccer Team had an undefeated week going 2 and 0.  The girls defeated Riverside High School 5-1 on Monday.  Angelina Sauls and Julia Ostroff each scored 2 goals for the Panthers.  Riayn DiMeo added a goal as well with  Maeve O’Connell making 3 saves in goal to pick up the win.  The girls then defeated Gloucester High School on Friday, 5-0.  Lauren Gilmore and Julia Ostroff each scored twice while Riayn DiMeo added another.  Maeve O’Connell made 1 save in goal to pick up the shutout win.  The girls are now 14-4 on the season and clinched the #1 seed for the upcoming NJSIAA Sectional Playoffs.  The girls will host New Egypt High School tonight at 6PM for senior night at the stadium.

Congratulations to Boys & Girls Cross Country Teams on their best meet of the year last Wednesday at the BCSL Freedom Division Meet.  Dominic Belton took 4th overall and ran under 19 minutes for the first time in his career. Jimmy Crean placed 6th overall and ran under 20 minutes for the first time in his career.  Both Jimmy and Dominic were selected to the 1st Team BCSL Freedom Division All-Star Team. Colin Broadbelt and Cormac Riley were selected to the 2nd Team BCSL Freedom Division All-Star Team. Freshmen Owen Jacobs and Colin McGovern also ran personal bests in the race. The Boys team placed 2nd in the division.  The Girls CC also had 3 ladies selected to the all-star team. Cadence Anderson placed 2nd overall and went under 22 minutes for the first time. Olivia McGovern crushed her personal best and placed 6th overall.  Cadence and Olivia were selected to the 1st Team BCSL Freedom Division. Andrea Garcia ran a personal best and was selected to the 2nd team Freedom Division All-Star Team.

The Boys Soccer Team had an undefeated week as well, winning their lone game 2-1 over Camden County Tech-Sicklerville.  Coady McCann and Cole McCamy were the goal scorers.  Cole’s goal came in the 2nd overtime to win it for the Panthers and to clinch the #1 seed for the boys in the upcoming NJSIAA SJ Group 1 Sectional Tournament.  Matteo Gravano assisted on both goals.  John Liebe made 4 saves in goal to pick up the win.  The boys are now 14-4 on the season and will host Triton High School tomorrow in a playoff tune-up.

The Football Team lost to Florence High School on Saturday, 31-6.  Kwinten Ives scored the team’s touchdown on an exciting 70 yard run in the 1st quarter.  The Panthers fell to 1-6 on the season.
