Four young male athletes in Palmyra track uniforms stand at the Penn Relays, with a stadium and track in the background.-and NOW from our SPORTS DESK - Athletic Director Mike Papenberg reports:                                                                   Good Morning Everyone, we hope you were able to stay warm and dry over the weekend!  Here is a look at how our athletes performed last week:
 
The Boys & Girls Track & Field delivered an outstanding performance at the Fast Times at Cherokee Track Meet.

  • The girls’ 4x100 relay team of Maddie Grimes, Khloe Hunter, Ava Sims, and Alivia Brown sprinted to a strong 9th-place finish, while the
  •  boys’ relay team of Michael Monroe, Sy'keem Muse, Burak Sayin, and Rafael Gonzalez followed closely with a 10th-place finish.
In the individual events,
  • Ava Sims placed 6th in the triple jump,
  • Deanna Bailey earned 10th in the shot put, and
  • Khloe Hunter secured 6th in the high hurdles.
The team celebrated two medalists on the night.
  • Zaria Welch earned a medal in the girls’ discus, and
  • Johnny Hammond delivered an incredible performance in the 1600 meters, placing 2nd while cutting 10 seconds off his season-best time!
On Thursday and Friday our top boys and girls track athletes were able to compete at the World Famous Penn Relays!

Four young male athletes in matching Palmyra track uniforms stand together at Penn Relays stadium.The Boys Tennis Team had a big week picking up 2 wins. The boys defeated Audubon on Tuesday, 3-2.  Jack Timlin won at 1st singles (6-3, 6-0). Rian Austin won at 3rd singles (7-5, 6-3) and the 2nd doubles team of William Rossignol and Marco Ordonez (7-6, 7-6) won to clinch the match. 
On Friday the boys traveled to Clayton High School and picked up another win, 4-1.  Jack Timlin (6-1, 6-2) won at 1st singles and Justin Smyth won at 2nd singles (6-4, 6-4).  The 1st doubles team of Aidan Finch and Elliot Wence (6-4, 6-0) won and the 2nd doubles team of Simon Jacobs and Joao Alves (0-6, 6-2, 10-7) also were victorious to finish the match.  The boys are now 2-5 on the season and will travel to Burlington Township today for their next match.
 
The Softball Team went 1-1 on the week.  The Lady Panthers opened the week with a tight 3-2 loss to BCIT Medford.  Olivia Lynch had the Panther hit.  Sydney Lim had an RBI and Jisselle Martinez scored both the runs.  Jasmine Martinez struck out 7 Jaguars. 
The girls rebounded on Thursday with a 16-0 win over the Burlington City Blue Devils.  Olivia Lynch and Jasmine Martinez each had 2 hits. Jasmine knocked in 3 runs while also striking out 7 Blue Devils to earn the win on the mound.  Gianna Guglielmucci, Sidney Lim, Jadiah Edwards, Elsie Kenson and Grace Stavely all had hits, with Grace also knocking in 3 runs.  The girls are 7-3 on the season and will return to action tomorrow at home against Collingswood High School.
 
The Baseball Team The baseball team picked up their 1st win of the season with a 10-0 win over Pennsauken Tech on Wednesday.  Justin Dellisanti led the offense with 3 hits and 3 RBI’s.  Declan Sharkey and TJ Peltz each added 2 hits.  Ian Smith and Dorrian Davis each had 2 RBI’s. The boys are now 1-8 on the season.  The Panthers will return to action today at Charles Street School against Burlington City at 345PM.
 
=====================MIDDLE SCHOOL SPORTS============================
The Middle School Track & Field Teams competed at Winslow Middle School on Thursday.
  • Aurora Previch knocked 31 seconds off her previous best in the Mile, breaking our middle school record with a time of 6:49 (2nd place). She also ran a personal best in the 800m in 3:08.20, an over five second improvement.
  • Jason Durant ran a personal best of 13.0 in the 100m.
  • Jacob Henry placed 5th in the 800m with a time of 2:46.3 and also threw the shot put 26' 6 ½ ".
  • Liz Youngblood is within striking distance of our 400m middle school record with a time of 73 seconds.
-The boys 4x100 relay team of Joey Malloy, Aaron Arevalo, Dominic Sawyer, & Jason Durant ran a 54.7, which was a 5 second improvement from our first meet. It was also faster than any boys relay last season.
-Cecilia Ostroff, Violet Lantigua, Liz Youngblood, & Lucy Campbell all jumped over 10 feet in the long jump.
-Ryan Culliton had a big jump of 14' 11 ½ " in the long jump.
The middle school track and field team will travel to Medford Middle School today for their next meet.
