Language Instruction Guidance for Families
Our district provides English as a Second Language (ESL) instruction for all students whose primary language is one other than English.
To ensure every student receives the support they need, we conduct an initial language screening. Students identified through this screening complete a formal language proficiency assessment to determine eligibility and specific service levels.
Through our ML program, students will:
Achieve fluency and literacy in the English language to participate fully in all academic areas.
Demonstrate growth on annual assessments, including the ACCESS for ELLs and the NJSLA.
Build foundational listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills to succeed in mainstream classrooms.
Gain an understanding of local customs and school culture to support a smooth social and personal transition.
Connect their families to the broader school community, fostering shared growth and engagement.
Parent Communication & Program Compliance- If your child qualifies for ESL services, you will receive an official notification letter from their ESL teacher. Student progress is shared quarterly on your child’s report card.
Our high-quality instruction helps students meet both New Jersey Student Learning Standards and English language proficiency goals. All programs comply with state mandates under N.J.A.C. 6A:15 (Bilingual Education). Student growth and language proficiency are formally evaluated each spring using the state-mandated ACCESS for ELLs assessment.
