Poster for 'Read Across America 2026' event, featuring colorful books and text.Both Delaware Avenue AND Charles Street Schools held their kickoff events last week so that this week could be FULL of festivities celebrating the wonders of READING!  NEA’s Read Across America is the nation’s largest celebration of reading, launched in 1998 to inspire children and teens to read through events, partnerships, and rich reading resources. It’s widely observed each year around March 2 — Read Across America Day (coinciding with the birthday of Dr. Seuss) and extends into Read Across America Week with activities in schools, libraries, and communities across the United States.

The national theme includes celebrating story, sound and song and the CSS 3rd Graders performed their Read Across America Anthem as they have for the past few years.

  • MONDAY, March 2nd is Pajama Day at DAS & CSS.
    • Charles Street School Welcomes Guest Author: Mr. Mike Dawson
    • DAS Preschool hosts Mystery Readers in classrooms
  • TUESDAY, March 3rd is Career Day: dress like who you want to be when you grow up!
    • Both CSS & DAS host Mystery Readers in their classrooms
  • WEDNESDAY, March 4th is Wild Wednesday: dress in animal prints or in your favorite animal duds
    • CSS Bookmark Design Winners, Poster Winners & Slogan Winning Classroom are treated to a special reader's lunch
    • DAS hosts Tomorrow's Teachers from PHS reading in classrooms & more guest readers during the day
  • THURSDAY, March 5th is Superhero Day:dress as a superhero and celebrate stories about bravery and kindness
    • CSS is hosting Guest Readers- with an extra special visit from US Senator Andy Kim
    • DAS is hosting world famous, Mr. DeFranco to celebrate with our building's readers
  • FRIDAY, March 6th is Book Character Day: dress as your favorite character from a book!
    • CSS holds their Special Teacher Challenge for readers who met their goal
    • CSS Reading Train is held at 1:40 when the halls are lined with parents/guardians reading books with their children (permission slips must have been received for entry into building by deadline- see website)
    • DAS has more Mystery Readers and wraps up the week with Top Reader Awards and a highly anticipated BLUEY Dance Party!
